Nanlite’s pico is billed as a go anywhere full-color light that fits in your pocket, and at under $35 it’s not going to break the bank either.
The new pico from Nanette weighs just 130 grams / 4.59 oz and is the latest entry from an industry keen to develop entry level lighting.
It’s definitely small at 67.3 x 71.6 x 33.7 mm / 2.65 x 2.82 x 1.33 inches. Despite its compact form, pico offers an output of 4211 lux at 0.3m (5600K) and 334 lux at one metre. High color fidelity ensures accurate reproduction of natural tones, with CRI and TLCI averages of 95/95 and TM-30 Rf/Rg averages at 92/99. Attaching the included magnetic diffuser instantly softens the light.
Pico is powered by the company’s Nebula C4 Light Engine and provides a wide range of 0–360° hue and 0–100% saturation, with tuneable white from 2700K to 7500K and a ±150 green/magenta adjustment for skin tones and scene matching. Fourteen customisable built-in creative effects allow users to emulate the usual range of phenomena including storms, candlelight, and police lights.
It features a clean control setup, using dials, buttons, and a 1.28-inch round display for easy access to settings. Mounting is easy thanks to the integrated yoke and magnetic base, which allows for quick secure attachment on metal surfaces. A built-in 1500mAh lithium battery provides 1.3 to 6.5 hours of runtime, depending on settings, with a real-time battery display to monitor remaining power. The USB-C port allows recharging or continuous operation from a power bank, ensuring reliable performance on location.
