SmallHD Quantum 27 monitor - coming in August

Following the success of the Quantum 32 quantum dot OLED monitor, SmallHD has just announced the imminent availability of its little brother in the shape of a new 27-inch version, the Quantum 27.

The Quantum 32 was originally announced in February last year and was the first entrant in SmallHD's collaboration with Samsung Display Corporation on bringing quantum dot OLED to the high-end post market. 

The new Quantum 27 boasts a 26.5-inch 4K UHD display with a true 10-bit color depth and a peak brightness of up to 1000 nits (peak @ 3% APL). According to SmallHD, the monitor covers 99% of the DCI-P3 color gamut and boasts a contrast ratio of 1,500,000:1, positioning it as a definite contender for color-critical work in cinema and broadcast.

In fact, the spec is identical to the Quantum 32, apart from the interesting detail of that unit 'only' covering 98% of the DCI-P3 color gamut. And obviously the Quantum 27 is smaller and weighs less too, coming in at 21 lbs / 9.6kg.

It comes equipped with four 12G-SDI inputs and outputs, as well as HDMI 2.0 in and out, all supporting 4Kp60 signals. It features plenty of mounting points, a carry handle, and, of course, it runs on SmallHD’s PageOS, offering advanced video processing, exposure and color tools, and (and this is promised as 'coming soon' too), built-in color calibration without the need for third-party software.

Pricing and availability

The Quantum 27 will be available in August at a price of $11,499. SmallHD points out that this includes a tariff surcharge of $500 which "will be removed if conditions improve." The Quantum 32 currently retails at around $12,999.
